Begins 1/19/2024 Online - Neurodivergent Somatics: A model for ND affirming care that supports both clients and the therapists who work with them 10am-12:30pm MT/12pm-2:30pm ET:: Prerequisite Required
In this live online cohort based learning lab, we will gather for a total of 5 sessions, each session 2.5 hours in length, for a total of 12.5 hours. We will go deeper into how to effectively engage in anti-ableist somatic approaches with Neurodivergent clients (continued focus on Autism and ADH). We will also explore how to apply this same approach in support of you in your role and self-regulation as a therapist, counselor, or social worker. Like with all of Nyck’s trainings, permission will be at the foundation of everything we do.
Neurodivergent Somatics is a Neurodivergent anti-ableist somatic model created by Nyck Walsh which includes three principles: Pleasure/Neutrality, Global Permission, and Client as Self Expert.
Each principle will be explored in its application with clients and explored in its application for us as therapist/counselor/social worker. We will cover specific and tangible tools and strategies to use both inside and outside of session. You will gain greater awareness of and confidence in how to honor your own neurotype, including strengths, challenges, and accommodations. Over the 5 sessions, we will cover:
Concrete somatic tools and strategies for nervous system regulation
Practices for dismantling internalized ableism/ableism
Boundaries as a much needed form of differentiation in support of empowerment, clarity, and unmasking
Accommodations and executive function supports that are needed for the everyday and to prevent counselor burn-out
This Neurodiverse learning lab will include: lecture, sensory delight!, break out rooms, group discussion/collaboration, and writing prompts, all within a ND affirming container. Limited to 8 participants, all neurotypes welcome, and the Autistic and ADH neurotypes will be centered! Please bring your curiosity and questions as we explore this exciting and oh-so necessary work as helping professionals and the work of being human.
