Helping kids and teens to express their innate healing ability

It is often said that when you've met one person on the autism spectrum, you've met one person on the autism spectrum. All of us are unique, and the same thing goes for individuals with a diagnosis of autism.
I've found some common links with each child or teen on the spectrum that I've met. Each has a bright and beautiful inner light and a very loving soul. Each is a highly gifted individual with a lot to teach the world.
Yoga, by definition, means to yoke or unite our body, mind, and spirit. As a practice that helps us to find connection within ourselves, and ultimately, self-love, yoga is ideal for people labeled with autism. It is an ideal antidote to the inner feelings of brokenness and needing to be fixed that often come with autism. Yoga reminds us that we are whole and perfect as we are, and gives us permission to express our infinite Selves.
Very often, kids and teens with autism are highly sensitive individuals, and are especially impacted by harsh or negative energies, environments, and situations. Yoga helps to filter out those harsh, pent up energies, allowing the body's energy to flow more freely, resulting in happier, calmer kids and teens.
Additional benefits of yoga:
*regulates the nervous system (which is often over- or under-stimulated when autism is involved)
*creates calming and serves to release stress and frustration (helps to improve anger-management)
*develops feelings of self-control and empowerment
*detoxifies and cleanses the organs (helps with digestive issues and belly-aches)
*self-awareness (learning where my body ends and the air/environment begins)
*balance (includes balancing both hemispheres of the brain)
*flexibility (flexibility in the body helps to create flexibility in the mind, a huge help for dealing with transitions and the unexpected)
*strength (fun movements build a strong body, including a strong core and improved motor skills)
*builds confidence
*allows for creative self-expression
*non-competitive (movement, breathing, and relaxation, without the pressure of competing)
*yoga is highly adaptable!
